Primary Care Diabetes Competency Framework

The Primary Care Diabetes Competency Framework offers individuals, teams and networks a comprehensive tool to assess diabetes competencies for each member of staff delivering the diabetes clinical service. The tool links to relevant training options to close competency gaps. It provides a simple route to identifying and meeting upskilling needs for PCN diabetes services.

The framework is underpinned by a range of courses and learning links from a mix of training providers. It covers all aspects of care delivery for all roles, from unregistered (HCA) to PCN Expert/Specialist Practitioner. The pathway can be supported by mentorship and development support from Specialist Primary Care Diabetes Facilitators. Full use of the competency framework and associated facilitation/mentorship has been commissioned by NHS Kernow and is provided free of charge to PCN practices and staff in Cornwall.
