keeping general practice at the heart of patient care in Cornwall...

Immunisations are a very important part of maintaining health, not just for the children in your schools but also for the entire population.

Some vaccines are only effective for a short period of time, such as the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV), and it is therefore crucial children are immunised in good time. Our aim at Kernow Health is to see a significant increase in the number of children protected against some of the more serious diseases.

In 2016 Kernow Health began delivering the School Immunisation Programme in Cornwall on behalf of NHS England. This replaced the service that General Practice previously offered.

We have been immunising the following age groups from September 2016 but from October 2017, the Nasal Flu programme will also include all primary school years:

  • Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and Reception - Nasal Flu
  • Year 8 girls - HPV (1st dose)
  • Year 9 girls - HPV (2nd dose)
  • Year 9 girls and boys - Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio and Meningitis ACWY
The Secondary School Programme is now underway and the Nasal Flu Immunisations will commence again from September 2019 in Primary Schools.

If your child is home-schooled, we will write to you inviting your child to a community ‘catch-up’ clinic.
