Management of Anticoagulant Therapy in Primary Care with a focus on INR Management (Face to Face Learning) – 3rd October 2024

This session is taking place on the 3rd October 2024, 9.00am-1.30pm at Chacewater Village Hall, Truro, TR4 8PZ.

If you are involved in the management or day to day running of INR services for your patients, then this course is designed to ensure you have the most up to date knowledge and information to run a safe, effective, and efficient service.

We will be welcoming  presenters from the Thrombolysis and Point of Care Testing teams from the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust.

Expected Audience

Healthcare Support Workers, Nursing Associates and Practice Nurses involved in the management of patients taking warfarin and anticoagulants.

Aims

To educate or update those involved in the management of Warfarin and DOAC medication in the primary care setting.

What will I learn about?

  • The indications for anticoagulation.
  • The dosing, and monitoring requirements of Warfarin and DOACS.
  • The importance of accurate POCT in General Practice to safely care for a patient requiring Warfarin.
  • Management of a safe and effective INR service, including audit of TTR, ongoing care of equipment for validation and ensuring robust protocol and SOP are in place for this small but important group of patients.

Pre-Work

Prior to attending the study session, delegates must complete the INR self-directed webinar which is available from the INRstar website. Your practice will need to be a registered user of INRstar, if they are already registered, you may already have access through existing licences provided upon purchase of the system.  Please check with your Practice Manager, who will need to organise this for you.

Whilst the training required should ultimately be determined by individual practices, we would suggest the following:

  • Level 1: Health Care Support Worker / Nursing Associate
  • Level 2: Registered Nurse / Nursing Associate
  • Level 3: Lead Nurse / GP / Pharmacist

Delegates must send a copy of their INRstar completion certificate to kernowhealthcic.workforce@nhs.net prior to the course start date. If you have completed the INRstar training in the last 3 years, please provide proof of completion. If your practice is not using INRstar, please also inform us in advance of the session.
