keeping general practice at the heart of patient care in Cornwall...

Parents

Immunisations are a very important part of maintaining health, not just for the children in your schools but also for the entire population.

Some vaccines are only effective for a short period of time, such as the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV), and it is therefore crucial children are immunised in good time. Our aim at Kernow Health is to see a significant increase in the number of children protected against some of the more serious diseases.

In 2016 Kernow Health began delivering the School Immunisation Programme in Cornwall on behalf of NHS England. This replaced the service that General Practice previously offered.

We have been immunising the following age groups from September 2016 but from October 2017, the Nasal Flu programme will also include Reception and Year 4 in primary school.

  • Years 1, 2, 3, 4 and Reception - Nasal Flu
  • Year 8 girls - HPV (1st dose)
  • Year9 girls - HPV (2nd dose)
  • Year 9 girls and boys - Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio and Meningitis ACWY
  • Year 11 girls and boys - Meningitis ACWY - This service stops on the 28th July 2017 for Year 11's as it is for one year only.

The Nasal Flu Immunisations will commence 2nd October and finish December 8th in Primary Schools and the Secondary School Programme commences from January 15th 2018.
